Bloom was born on April 2, 1982 in Fort Collins Colorado. He first put skis on at age three. He raced alpine at age 10 before eventually turning his focus to moguls. At age 11, Bloom predicted he would be in the Olympics. After suffering injuries all season, Bloom won bronze at the 2000 Junior World Championships. Bloom won the 2001 NorAm Moguls and started off the 2002 season on the C team for the United States. Bloom slowly worked his way up and qualified for the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City where he finished ninth in Moguls. He went on to attend the University of Colorado and became a standout wide receiver and returner for the Buffaloes in 2002 and 2003.

For the first time in his life, Bloom was forced to be a one-sport athlete in July 2004 after the NCAA declared him ineligible for accepting a skiing-related sponsorship. Since then, Bloom has taken advantage of the situation, winning the 2005 World Cup moguls competition in overwhelming fashion.

Bloom now has everything going for him heading into Turin. He's had more time to focus on skiing, he won the World Cup and he knows he could be competing in his last Olympics if he hooks on with an NFL team. All this motivation should lead Bloom to gold medal in Turin as long as he does not repeat the mistakes he made at the 2002 Games.
