Bears at Seahawks. Chicago embarrassed Seattle last season in their regular-season Sunday night game, then completed the season sweep with an NFC playoff win. Rest assured, the Seahawks have this one circled on the calendar.
Bucs at Falcons. Atlanta running back Warrick Dunn spent his first five seasons in Tampa Bay, the last five with the Falcons. He’ll be taking aim at 10,000 career rushing yards about now. Congrats, Warrick.";

Don’t miss: Ravens at Chargers.
If there’s a team that can stop LaDainian Tomlinson, it’s Baltimore. The Ravens handed San Diego one of its two losses last season, holding L.T. to just 98 yards rushing and no touchdowns. Winning this game is especially important for the Ravens, who follow with home games against New England, Indianapolis and road trips to Miami and Seattle before closing out the season at home against Pittsburgh. If Steve McNair and Co. expect to play at home in the playoffs, a 4-2 mark in that six-week span will be necessary.
Other marquee matchups: Dolphins at Steelers. Longtime Steelers LB Joey Porter returns to Pittsburgh. Porter will let us know how he feels about it.
Packers at Lions. What looked like the worst of the Thanksgiving Day games (both the Cowboys and Colts should win in routs) turns into a crucial NFC North matchups.
Broncos at Bears. Super Bowl matchup? It's a longshot at this point.";

Both teams could be fighting for their playoff lives by now, which makes the Steve Smith-Nate Clements matchup even more intriguing. San Francisco paid big money for the Pro Bowl cornerback to shut down receivers just like Smith. Smith, on the other hand, can win a game on his own in spite of Jake Delhomme’s interception tendencies.
Other marquee matchups: Patriots at Ravens. This one could determine the top seed in the AFC playoffs. If New England’s offense is clicking, even Baltimore vaunted defense might not be able to keep up.
Bengals at Steelers. Rivalry matchup, part II. When will a home team hold court?
Seahawks at Eagles. A key game when it comes to NFC playoff seeding and earning a home game.
Jaguars at Colts. If the AFC South hasn’t been decided by now, this is the game that will decide it.";

By this point, teams may be stacking nine players along the line of scrimmage to stop Kansas City’s only real offensive weapon, running back Larry Johnson. L.J. and his NFL single-season record 416 carries from a year ago could break down at any moment, though, making this game a must-win for Denver, who will be chasing San Diego all season for the AFC West crown. And don’t forget, it was K.C., not Denver, that reached the 2006 AFC playoffs with a 9-7 season. Rest assured the Broncos won’t be taking this game lightly.

Philadelphia has won the NFC East five of the last six seasons. Dallas, on the other hand, hasn’t won the division since 1998. It was a little surprising Bill Parcells couldn’t finish ahead of Andy Reid, but now it’s Wade Phillips’ turn to ensure a division crown in Big D. The Cowboys certainly have the talent.
Other marquee matchups: Jets at Patriots. This is N.Y.’s last gasp at derailing the New England train. The big question? How different will these teams look from butting heads in the opener?
Colts at Raiders. JaMarcus Russell should take careful notes on how to be an NFL quarterback.

The final installment of our Brett Favre record watch should end here. Favre entered the season needing 3,862 passing yards to surpass Dan Marino’s career record of 61,361 yards. A 4,000-yard season by Favre (he has four in his career, the last coming in 2004) is possible, especially if Green Bay is forced to play from behind like it was last season. However, a big passing day against the Bears in Chicago on Dec. 23 may be too much to ask, even for one of the NFL’s all-time gunslingers.
Other marquee matchups: Broncos at Chargers. Expect the AFC West title to be decided here, though the Broncos probably wish it were in wintry Denver instead.
Eagles at Saints. These two dazzled during their 2006 playoff game, which the Saints won, 27-24. We’re hoping for an encore here and in the 2007 playoffs.
Cowboys at Panthers. Two of the NFC’s most talented teams face off. But are they both playoff bound?
Ravens at Seahawks. If Seattle has the NFC West won, this game may not matter. But we see it as a possible Super Bowl matchup.";

Ex-Jets coach Herm Edwards was 39-41 in five seasons in N.Y., and guided them to three playoff berths. He managed to coax a 9-7 record and a playoff berth out of the Chiefs in his first season in K.C., despite an injury to starting quarterback Trent Green. Despite all that, most think Edwards’ teams usually underperform. How he’s greeted in his N.Y. return will give us a better indicator about how fans really feel.
Other marquee matchups: Saints at Bears. A rematch of the 2006 NFC title game and a possible preview of this year’s game. If either team uses its starters, that is.
Patriots at Giants. And the Tom Coughlin era in N.Y. ends.
Lions at Packers. If Brett Favre didn’t break Dan Marino’s record for career passing yards in Week 16, this is a sure thing."; // END editorial data
