Sadaharu Oh: Truly a legend in his country, Oh is the Babe Ruth of Japan. His career total of 868 home runs is the most of any professional in the world, far surpassing even Hank Aaron's MLB-record 755. He won the triple crown in Japan twice, won 11 championships and was named MVP nine times. He retired at age 40 with 2,786 hits, 2,170 RBI and a .301 lifetime batting average.

They were upset by Korea, 3-2, in the Asian pool finale after scoring 32 runs in routs of Taiwan and China, but advance to the second round in Anaheim beginning March 12.
