In 2008, the Eagles ranked in the top 10 in seven defensive categories. In 2007, the Eagles defense ranked second in the nation.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 6-6.<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> Jagodzinski will be tough to replace, not only because he was a top-flight recruiter, but his offensive mind was the perfect compliment to Spaziani&#146;s defensive prowess. How Spaziani replaces Jagodzinski&#146;s offensive flair will be one of the keys to his success, as well as his ability to recruit.<br><r/><br>On the plus side, the pressure is not on him as much as it is on DeFlippo who put his job on the line with such a controversial move. In that regard, Spaziani may receive ample time to find his footing. But he may not. He has to hit the ground running ... and winning.";

Then he went to Richmond and took the Spiders to the FCS semis in 2007.<br><r/><br>Clawson comes from Tennessee, where last season he served as offensive coordinator and QBs coach. His forte is QB development and pro production. Eight times Clawson&#146;s QBs have earned all-conference honors. He has also had a hand in the development of the likes of Brian Westbrook, Tim Hightower and Brian Finneran.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 6-6.<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> Building something from nothing is one thing. Taking an established program and giving it an even higher profile on the national stage is something else.<br><r/><br>Clearly that is what is expected of Clawson and it is a difficult assignment. If he can recruit and develop players as he has in the past, he will have a good chance. That said, it is hard to imagine Bowling Green achieving far greater success that it achieved under Brandon.";

But it&#146;s nearly impossible to tell if it was because of the interim coach&#146;s work or the players reacting to a difficult and emotional situation. Clemson will have a better idea this season why he was successful last season.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 5-7<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> Clemson has an idea that Swinney can coach, and it certainly knows he can recruit. Rivals.com ranked him as the country&#146;s fifth-best recruiter in 2006 and it has ranked him one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation four times. At the same time, the bar has been set. Bowden went to a bowl game in eight of nine seasons and it wasn&#146;t good enough. That&#146;s a daunting reality for Swinney.";

The Cardinals ranked 70th in total defense and 88th in scoring defense.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 5-7.<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> This program will take time to turn around. As long as English shows steady progress, he should be given the time to make his mark on his program. If he doesn't, he won&#146;t be around for long.";

In 2007, the Gators led the conference, averaging 42.5 points and 457.2 yards a game.<br><r/><br>Mullen also worked for Gators coach Urban Meyer at Utah, Bowling Green and Notre Dame. During his tenure at Utah, Mullen was the QBs coach and worked with eventual No. 1 draft pick Alex Smith. In Gainesville, he worked with Chris Leak during the Gators&#146; 2006 national title season and also helped coach Tim Tebow to the 2007 Heisman Trophy and a spot as a Heisman finalist last season.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 5-7.<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> Mullen certainly knows how to run an offense. But he needs players, and recruiting against his more established SEC counterparts will be very difficult. Then again, Mullen was able to get quality players to come to Bowling Green and Utah, so if can recruit there, he should be able to recruit anywhere.";

The past two seasons, Illinois topped over 5,000 yards in total offense.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 8-4.<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> Locksley has the advantage of recruiting kids to a program that has attained a level of respectability. He just has to make sure he doesn&#146;t overreach and try and grab players he has no chance of landing.";

Rival Utah clearly has the market cornered in terms of prestige and tradition, but it will be up to Andersen to lure some of those players his way if he is to survive.";

For the past two seasons, he was assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. During his seven seasons in Troy, the Trojans posted a 74-15 record. As offensive coordinator, they went 22-3.<br><r/><br>One of his titles for four years was quarterbacks coach, and he worked with Heisman winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. <br><r/><br>That should help Huskies QB Jake Locker, the Pac-10 freshman of the year in 2007.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 3-9.<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> Washington has hit rock bottom but this is a program that isn&#146;t that far removed from being a legitimate player on the national stage again. Sarkisian has great credentials, but he must be able to transform those into his new role as head coach and then onto the field in the form of victories. Anyway you look at it, 2009 should be a much better season in Seattle.";

He was runner-up for the 2007 Frank Broyles Award, which honors the top assistant coach in the nation each season.<br><r/><br>Missouri earned trips to the Big 12 title game the past two seasons and last season the Tigers&#146; offense averaged 45.0 points and 344.3 yards through the air to rank fourth in the nation in each category.<br><r/><br><b>2009 prediction:</b> 6-6.<br><r/><br><b>Long-term outlook:</b> We know what Andersen can do with the kind of players he had at Missouri. The question is what can he do with the players he'll have at Wyoming? To be fair, they are not in the same class. But the only thing that matters is if he can get the same kind of results. If he can, his stay will be successful and, most likely, short.";
