The early entry deadline this year is April 27. Those who don’t hire agents have until June 16 to withdraw their names and return to school.
Several prominent players are still deciding what to do. It’s a tough call for many. There are personal factors, family situations, injuries, financial situations and basketball issues to be considered.

Alexander was the best player in the Big East the last four weeks of the season. He found a variety of ways to score against some of the best defensive teams in the nation. He is long and athletic but with another year at West Virginia he might develop into a lottery pick.

Like Alexander, Anderson has entered the draft but hasn’t hired an agent. Anderson didn’t get the national attention he deserved, but he’s one of the best offensive players in the nation. He’s caught between the two forward spots without a true position and that might hurt his spot in the draft.

Chalmers will take a long look at his draft position – and he should. Chalmers may have hit the biggest shot in Kansas history and his reputation as a defender is solid. But Chalmers is one of those guys who would probably regret missing his fourth year of college ball.

Greene is a sensational talent, perfect for the NBA with his long and athletic body. Greene has the ability to score inside and out but his stamina became an issue at the end of the season. The Orange could have a tremendous season if he decides to return and he would benefit personally as well.

Thabeet is so long, so tall and such a terrific shot blocker, it’s not a surprise that NBA teams are enthralled with the UConn big man. Thabeet made strides as a sophomore but has so much more to learn. His offensive footwork still leaves a great deal to be desired and his instincts are still raw. Only one thing can help Thabeet and that is time. Budinger is a talented swingman who had a disappointing season, just like the Wildcats. He has NBA size and a sweet, quick release that is hard to defend. He has a tendency to be too laid back, but NBA scouts have been crazy about him for two years. It may be a good time to leave behind the chaos in Tucson.

His stock should have improved with his play in the NCAA Tournament, especially in the Final Four. CDR is extremely athletic and with a variety of unorthodox moves and shots, he is so hard to guard. He defends well and if Rose won’t be playing for the Tigers, there’s little incentive for CDR to stick around.

Love is great for college basketball and could be instrumental in another revival for the Beach Boys, but he is skilled enough to move on. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Love was the most fundamentally sound big man in college basketball. He’s ready to battle with the big boys.

It would be great if the Jayhawks pulled a Florida and everyone returned in an attempt to repeat as champions, but that’s not realistic. Rush deserves credit for coming back from the ACL injury that blocked his path to the NBA last year. Kansas wouldn’t have won it all without him. Now it’s his time.

Much like Beasley, I never got the impression that Walker wanted to play college basketball. Walker is talented but not in the same league as Beasley. There still too much inconsistency in his game, but he can work on that at the pro level. And, let’s face it, without Beasley around, it just won’t be as much fun watching those SpongeBob SquarePants cartoons.
