Why do we love zombies so much? Is it their hollow, dead eyes? Their guttural groans of pain? Or is it their bottomless lust for human brains? Nah, we just love the way their decomposing bodies splatter all over the screen when we kill them!
But if there’s one thing we love more than beating down a zombie, it’s beating down a whole army of them. There’s something so satisfying about mowing through an advancing horde of the undead.

'Dead Rising'
Capcom’s “Dead Rising” has exactly what we want in a zombie game: lots of them to kill! This game locks you inside a shopping mall that is completely overrun with the undead, and every time you turn around some ghoul is trying to take a bite out of you.
The fun part of “Dead Rising” is exploring the stores and picking up items to use as weapons. You’ll find chainsaws and sickles at the hardware store – which are both good for popping off zombie heads. Over at the knife store, be sure to pick up swords just right for monster-slicing. And our favorite: The guitar in the music store. It’s so much fun to smash that axe over a zombie’s skull.";

'Resident Evil 4'
Capcom has had much success with its “Resident Evil” games, which are all about trying to survive a zombie onslaught. But our favorite of the bunch is “Resident Evil 4.” Sure, you’ll face off with a ton of zombies in this game, but these ghouls are actually pretty smart. We know that traditionally zombies are supposed to be dumb as mud, but it really is refreshing to take on monsters that actually have brains – and not just for eating. ";

'The House of the Dead'
Another great zombie-filled franchise is Sega’s “The House of the Dead.” While you can’t really go wrong with any of the sequels, it’s the original arcade game that we like the best. It has lots of zombies to kill – and a storyline that changes depending on how successful you are at killing them. Shooting them all heads you down one path, while missing zombies at inappropriate times leads you down a different one.
This game ate so many of our quarters because of the gun it has attached to the side of the machine, allowing us to physically aim and unload on the undead. Very satisfying stuff.";

Let’s face it: “Doom 3” was a bit of a disappointment as a sequel. But as a zombie game, it’s great. “Doom 3,” from Activision, has the same weapons, demons and undead as the original, but thanks to the new graphics, they all look super sharp!
Thankfully, the “Doom 3” update focused mostly on graphics and not on new storylines or unnecessarily long cut-scenes. With this game’s simple run-and-gun philosophy, you don't need anything else.";

'Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse'
Game maker Aspyr gave the zombie genre a twist in “Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse.” This time, instead of killing the undead, you’re the zombie on the hunt for brains.
But “Stubbs” is more than a simple gimmick. It’s a solid third-person action game, built upon the “Halo” engine, with a great co-op mode where you and a fellow gamer get to wreak havoc on the city together. Plus it lets you do fun stuff like create your own horde of undead out of the people you kill and sever your own body parts to use as weapons.
“Stubbs” also gets bonus points for its cool soundtrack that includes songs by Ben Kweller and Death Cab for Cutie.
