Decide where to shop for the best bargains. If two stores each have low prices on different items that you need, you can save by “cherry-picking” or buying the best sale items at each store. If you plan to get a frozen turkey, buy it at least 4-5 days in advance to thaw in the refrigerator. Buy that store’s best deals for your meal when you buy the turkey. Make your second trip to buy perishable items at the store with those best deals a day or two before Thanksgiving. Two well-planned, short shopping trips can take less time overall than one big trip, and you will be less likely to forget an item.

Coupons are the icing on the cake. You’ll find twice as many grocery coupons in the newspaper in November and many of them will be for common Thanksgiving staples. Look for coupons for baking ingredients, dinner rolls, pies, whipped cream, gravies, frozen vegetables, cream soups and even turkeys.

Get the most coupons by using several sources. Look for the coupon circulars in the newspaper, print coupons from www.couponmom.com, get new electronic coupons downloaded directly on your store discount card from www.shortcuts.com, find in-store coupons in store magazine and brochure racks, on store displays, and even on some product packages. Pay attention to the coupons you receive in the mail from your grocery store because they will probably be for items that you routinely buy.
